"rainbowmaker"~

On 29 March 2012 03:44, Martin Law <martin.rainbowmaker@gmail.com> wrote:

"rainbowmaker"~ (the name)
year 2000 going into 2001, i moved from ballylickey,
further inland to ballingeary on an impulse. arranged and gone, in four days. to a house that was barely inhabitable when i moved in. no water supply for one thing. around this time i heard of the 'west cork medicine circle', and participated regularly in a few of their meetings, which happened in different peoples houses in a wide radius as the occasion arose.
before i adopted the name 'rainbowmaker', my 'sole' means of transport for over 30 years around rural eire was the bicycle, (a series of bicycles).
so, having never used a car,(ever), or an umbrella to keep the rain off, i was always out in all weathers, whether i felt like it or not. unknown to anyone that i for a long time had good reason to identify with the 'american indian' chief's name, 'rain-in-the-face'.
while in ballingeary i painted the 4ft tall painting called
'a rainbowmaker'. estimated it took about 300 hours evolving it from an inner glimpse, through a sketch, to the completed painting. i have photos of the stages it went through. completely from imagination, no photo, no 'model', or even 'a real woman'.
everyone at the circle meetings, about twenty of us, took on a name they felt best represented who or what they felt themselves to be.
at one meeting, as the 'talking-stick' was passed to me , i announced i was changing my name to 'rainbowmaker'. "aha", said 'white eagle', "then it has to be done correctly. You must stand up and announce it before all of us, and explain a little for clarification".
....eeeek! it's one thing singing in front of people, but speaking intelligibly...
so i did. i explained the 'rain-in-the-face' situation. how i wished to transform my sense of being, from the long term test of stamina and discipline for example of cycling sometimes ten miles and more in heavy rain, returning in the dark, often. the uphill and the downhill of it, standing on the pedals. sometimes with a heavy load of shopping, walking miles, pushing up a steep gradient. in three situations loaded with food for four people. at other times, free as a bird to explore on a whim, the burren, co. clare, west cork, the wicklow mountains. though that was a tough one, (twins to feed). rain in the face. other times zooming down a long hill dazzled by sun's glare, standing bolt upright, feathers fluttering wildly from the handlebars.
so... with that introduction, i heard myself announce, "i am rainbowmaker. i am NOT Ramone Baker. i AM rainbowmaker. in case you wonder, the name describes what i do, and have done despite everything for well over half a century since the age of four. as you'd say in gaelic, 'dathadoir', (a man of colours), painter.
it's a lifelong calling from the year 'dot', not, and never was, a 'hobby'. what the hell's a hobby anyway? i study, use, and think; colour. "
feeling then, that i had already said more than enough, to serve as what you might call a magic marker, i said simply, " i thank you all. a 'you' and a 'me' is 'a we'.
'a we' is an 'it'. 'it thanks itself'".
"phew..." i heard someone say. it was 'white eagle' actually. and i sat down, happy to shut-up, listen, and not be asked to say anything.
i, nobody special, have spoken.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"No story remains but images from a dream glimpse in the great ever-changing spiral kaleidoscope of colours raining down the visible spectrum, mystery memory traces blended with wistful imagination and residues of exploration. Celebrating circles returning in harmonious resonance with the new now, (there being no other now's or even a next moment). Timelessly immersed in precise nuances of creation as it germinates, sprouts, buds and blossoms and transforms itself in the process. Paint flows like blood and rivers leaving stains and signs of life, fading and reappearing reflected in droplets called rainbow."
